The Kingdom of China
This map shows the lands of China, Korea and Japan,
along with parts of Pegu (Burma) and Cauchinchina (Viet Nam),
as they had been charted in the 17th Century.
Flanking the map are illustrations of natives in various costume,
including a Soldier of Japan and a Woman of Pegu.
Along the top of the map are views of Macao and Quinzay (Hangzhou),
and depictions of their manners of travelling and execution!
The map itself, along with place names, rivers, lakes and mountains,
is adorned with fantastic comments such as
'In ye desert Lop men are thought to be seduced by
wonderfull illusions and divilish spitting'.
This would be a superb gift for anyone with an interest in the Orient.
